The Rotterdam Port area has been designated to house the entire supply chain for wind energy deployment in order to minimise interfaces and reduce costs.

The North Sea, the ideal location for wind energy farms

In 2019, offshore wind parks generate a total capacity of 1 GW. In 2023 this will increase to a minimum of 4.5 GW and will then provide 3.3% of all energy in the Netherlands. The locations for these offshore wind parks are situated along the North Sea coast, where circumstances are beneficial for commercialising offshore wind technology on a large scale.

Rotterdam, maritime capital of Europe

Home to offshore giants covering the entire maritime supply chain, the sector is ideally positioned to overcome the challenges of the offshore wind roll-out, and can deliver new technologies at a large scale. This will lead to a significant reduction in the total cost of sustainable electricity as well as reducing our carbon footprint.

Offshore Center Maasvlakte II

All aspects of offshore wind power production and distribution are concentrated around the Maasvlakte II in the Rotterdam Port area. This area includes space for manufacturing, assembly, construction, maintenance and storage, first-class port facilities and training and education facilities. A selection of technology being developed, validated and demonstrated is displayed to the right.

Testing and validation

The test and demo facilities at Maasvlakte 2 are available for short and long-term tests by any company, from startup to multinational corporations. Support is available for things such as licensing and utilities. The Port of Rotterdam also offers an extensive network of offshore-related companies.
