Field Labs

These real-life testing locations provide R&D, validation & demonstration facilities and services for innovations at all TRL levels. They are organised by ten public partners and hundreds of companies. SMITZH is a public initiative in which seven field labs participate. This organisation provides guidance and financing (in the form of vouchers) to companies in our region aiming to manufacture faster, cheaper and more sustainably and achieve better quality through digital solutions.

R&D incentives

The Dutch programme of incentives to stimulate R&D activities covers the whole R&D life cycle, from development to the exploitation of successful R&D. Our R&D incentives are the most extensive in the world.

Photonics & advanced instrumentation

DOC helps high-tech companies develop, demonstrate and validate optical and photonic measurement techniques (based on manipulating light) for applications in manufacturing processes.
Cognitive robotics
RoboHouse allows manufacturing companies to discover the possibilities of cognitive robotics, develop applications and test these applications in an industrial setting.
Autonomous transport
RADD partners experiment with autonomous transport in real-life conditions. Examples of research fields are interaction with and acceptance by the user and automated driving in goods transport.
Automated manufacturing

At SAM|XL, companies and research institutes collaborate in the field of automating and robotising the manufacture of lightweight structures such as composites.
3D printing
RAMLAB helps companies that want to 3D print their own metal products find the right equipment and settings through joint projects and proof printing.
Quantum computing
QuTech Shared Development programme is designed to facilitate collaboration in order to develop market applications for quantum technology.

Engineering talent

TU Delft is the Netherlands’ premier university in engineering and has a globally renowned reputation. Our region is also home to multiple universities with smaller but excellent engineering departments, producing talented professionals with varied expertise.

In addition to locally available talent, the majority of Europe’s leading technical universities are located within a 500km radius. To support companies in attracting international top talent, there are several appealing tax and immigration incentives and procedures for expats in the Netherlands.
