Japanese medtech company Cyberdyne expands to Rotterdam

Cyberdyne, a Japanese MedTech company sets up an office at CIC Rotterdam, enjoying the vibrant innovative community at this international incubator. From this location, Cyberdyne will serve the European market. Its photoacoustic imaging technology will also be served to the US market from this location. Cyberdyne is best known for its unique exoskeletons which are controlled by “bio-electrical signals”, called Hybrid assistive limb (HAL). These can potentially improve the mobility capabilities of patients with spinal cord injury, stroke, and neuro muscular diseases. Cyberdyne was assisted by InnovationQuarter, Rotterdam Partners and Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency in its relocation process.

Ties strengthened during inspiring and informative Dutch-Catalan Meetup

Last night, at the amazing venue of Cuatrecasas in Barcelona, we hosted the Dutch-Catalan Meetup, where we welcomed 80+ Dutch, Catalan and international guests. Dutch honorary consul Mr. Dirk Kremer opened the event with a speech in which he emphasized the strong eonomic ties between (West) Holland and Catalonia and business opportunities in both markets. After that, various great speakers inspired the audience with a discussion about the latest technology trends in artificial intelligence and (cyber)security.

Dutch King opens Microsoft Quantum Lab on TU Delft campus

King Willem Alexander opened the Microsoft Quantum Lab on the campus of TU Delft. With the lab, Microsoft strengthens quantum research in Delft, a research area where TU Delft ranks among the world’s best. The QuTech Research Institute, a collaboration between TU Delft and TNO, is working with industry on the development of quantum computers and a quantum internet. Microsoft, which now has its own laboratory in Delft, is one of the most important companies that collaborates intensively with Delft quantum researchers

By doing so, the members declared their intention to explore collaborative opportunities for Brazilian start-ups that want to access the European market via the Netherlands and for Dutch startups and scale-ups that want access to a home base for doing business in Brazil.

CampusKey, the South African developer of student housing complexes, focuses on expanding their successful housing formula to Europe. With approximately 4000 universities & higher educational institutes and a growing number of international students throughout Europe, the market outlook looks highly promising. The office is set up at PLNT, the incubator for start-ups in Leiden, where CampusKey will be close to innovations that can potentially be included in their student housing concepts. From here, they shall also act as a bridge to the start-up community located in their facilities in South Africa.

New Airbus Netherlands facility for production of space technology officially opened by Dutch Prime Minister Rutte

On November 8th Dutch Prime Minister Rutte officially opened the new production facility of Airbus Defence and Space Netherlands in Oegstgeest. In the 5,000 sqm smart factory, which is equipped with industry 4.0 capabilities, the Leiden-based site of Airbus develops, builds, tests and qualifies the engine frames for the lower and upper propulsion module of the Ariane 6. “The new production facility of Airbus is relevant, not only for the development of space, but also for employment and innovation in the Netherlands,” Prime Minister Rutte emphasised in his speech during the celebratory opening event.

Regional development agency InnovationQuarter and Greentown Labs, the largest cleantech incubator in the United States, launched the “BOSteRDAM” cleantech link during a Netherlands offshore wind delegation visit to Greentown Labs on October 18. BOSteRDAM is a two-week market expansion program which facilitates a soft-landing location for Dutch entrepreneurs with an interest in the Greater Boston Area, and for American cleantech entrepreneurs with the ambition to do business in the Netherlands.

“I was very keen to explore the West Holland region and meet potential customers,” says Stephan Steynfaardt from the South-African company WeAreMonsters. “That’s why I came to LINQ tonight.” Every year InnovationQuarter organizes networking event LINQ for the West Holland international business community. This year over 90 international relations came to former blanket factory Scheltema in Leiden to hear the deputy mayor talk about the rich innovative history of Leiden and to see eight West Holland cutting-edge innovations with their own eyes.
