Unmanned Valley is at the core of Drone Cluster Holland. This former naval airbase in Katwijk is now a field lab for sensor-based and 5G technologies and applications. The extensive facilities include a 25 hectare outdoor flying box, a 2,500 m2 indoor hangar and 8,000 m2 of office and production space.
MBO College Airport offers a 4-year vocational course in Drone Engineering & Operations in which students learn to design & test, assemble, maintain & repair drones. Dutch Drone Academy offers a Registered Training Facility and trains pilots to obtain a RPAS Operator Certificate.
Our region has an extensive Innovation Infrastructure in place, part of which are various fieldlabs. In these fieldlabs, hundreds of companies of all sizes work intensively with research and education institutes and with commitment and support from the Dutch government. Each fieldlab has its own specific focus. MAVLab, RoboHouse and DOC are a valuable complementation to the 5G fieldlab at Unmanned Valley Valkenburg.
Our region is home to a unique Aerospace cluster. Companies, research institutes and government organisations work closely together in hotspots where facilities are in place to network & collaborate, test, develop, train & demonstrate their innovative solutions.
The Micro Air Vehicle Laboratory of TU Delft solves fundamental technological utility and safety challenges of Micro Air Vehicles.
Dutch Optics Centre helps companies develop, and validate optical and photonic measurement techniques.
RoboHouse supports manufacturing companies with exploring cognitive robotics and develop and test applications in an industrial setting.
1.SAM|XL in Delft is a fieldlab for smart advanced manufacturing of large lightweight and composites (aerospace) structures.
NL Space Campus in Noordwijk is located next to ESA ESTEC. Companies at the campus are focused on both upstream and downstream space activities.
Aerospace Innovation Hub in Delft is a pre-incubator for aerospace startups located within the faculty of Aerospace Engineering.
Technology Park Ypenburg in The Hague is a Business Park for high tech, composites and new materials companies.
Rotterdam The Hague Innovation Airport is a fieldlab for the next generation airport and sustainable aviation
Drone Cluster Holland, which consists of >40 manufacturers and >15 operators benefits from adjacent fields of expertise in the high-tech community, most relevantly the aerospace cluster. Main fields of expertise in the drones cluster:

Market opportunities are plenty, particularly in two of the world-leading industries in our region: the Maritime & Port and the Horticulture industry. Businesses are open for collaboration as drone applications can potentially decrease service costs drastically and improve the ecological footprint in these industries.
An extraordinary amount of relevant educational institutes, educating students at a range of levels in various disciplines are located in our region.
The Netherlands has supportive regulations and procedures in place for attracting highly-skilled talent from abroad. In The Hague, the National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism, Ministry of Defense and TNO Security in cooperation with the police and the Netherlands Aerospace Center (NLR), have launched a multi-year knowledge program aimed at detecting, neutralizing and combatting unwanted drones. The Netherlands National Police is one of the biggest drone operators in The Netherlands with over 300 drones.
This programme of the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management (RWS) stimulates innovations in shipping traffic and water management. New technology is developed collaboratively with the contractor, research institutes and companies to organize RWS’ work smarter and faster by using sensors, drones and smart cameras.
